Experiences Beyond and Beyond the Border

The project Beyond and Beyond the Border was slowly being developed as I traveled through countries in the East, Africa and Southeast Asia. Getting to know worlds so opposed to the Western perspective was a decisive experience.

The first thing that impressed me when I walked through these streets were the striking and beautiful colors of the costumes as well as the markets, alleys, medinas and, especially its temples, which dazzle by the architectural richness and its shades.

By traveling through such heterogeneous peoples I learned to be aware that my view of things is determined by my cultural identity.

The differences in culture and customs between East and West are expressed most strongly in religious manifestations. Sacred rituals can be externalized in different ways in different territories.

Traveling through these continents, and also my own, observing the diversity of ritual practices, was a revelation for me. Whatever the religion, the differences lie in the external form, but the essential question is shared: here and there we ask ourselves about the meaning of life.
